Discovering Orchids Walk in Bickershaw Country Park
Join artists Helen Mather and our Anna FC Smith for a walk in Bickershaw Country Park with Leigh Ornithologist, Dave Wilson and Lancashire Wildlife Trust volunteer Alan Cargill. Together they will guide us on a search for orchid species that are colonising the post-industrial ground and preparing it for new plants species and to thrive.
The walk will also give us the opportunity to welcome in and honour the summer Solstice, marking midsummer and a time observe the seasons.
This walk is part of a project by Helen and Anna, to explore the new green heritage of post-industrial landscapes, how we think about these spaces now and how they may become part of our civic identity, as the industry there once was. Helen and Anna are keen to develop new ways of connecting with nature and sharing these experiences as a group through walking together.
On this walk we will share stories of our relationships to the land at Bickershaw, both old and new, learning about the place through our connections to it.
